‘McShoogle an’ the Woogles in Save the Haggis!’ is Ian’s first children’s book.

Ian is a seasoned composer and lyricist with several musicals to his name, many of which were showcased at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival including “CAVALLO”, “DORIAN GRAY – THE MUSICAL”, and “WHISKY GALORE – A MUSICAL!”.

His collaboration “FLING!”, written with Suzanne Lofthus, was a finalist on BBC2’s MACMUSICAL – 10 ON A HIGHLAND QUEST.” WHISKY GALORE – A MUSICAL!” ran at Pitlochry Festival Theatre in 2009 and again in 2011, earning two Critics’ Awards for Scotland nominations.

With funding from Creative Scotland to develop the initial idea, Ian then produced “CARNEGIE – THE STAR -SPANGLED SCOTCHMAN”, a musical about Andrew Carnegie, which played at both the Edinburgh Fringe and Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline.

Ian also composed “Help a Child Belong”, a song supporting the Foster in Fife campaign, which has been performed at Wembley Arena as part of the ‘Voice in a Million’ concert.

Julie founded 39steps, a creative studio in 2003, with a talented team providing a valuable brand, marketing and design service to small businesses across Scotland.

She and Ian met as part of a business group, and during the pandemic, decided to collaborate on a children’s story together.

Julie lives in Edinburgh with her husband, two young sons and a huge ginger cat called Jarvis. ‘McShoogle and the Woogles in Save the Haggis!’ is her first book.
